Description
  • Intense fruit and racy freshness
  • Ripe lemon, peach, pineapple, almonds, brioche and liquorice

The Delamotte Blanc de Blancs 2018 has an incredibly intense, seductive fruitiness: lemon floats above vineyard peach and pineapple. Almonds, vanilla brioche and liquorice, caramel and white blossom complete the fascinating spectrum of aromas. Delamotte is otherwise sophisticated but light, so the richness of this Chardonnay champagne is unexpected. However, the elegance, ultra-fine perlage and minerality veiled by the silky palate are typical.

The 2018 is even better than the 2008 and a champagne that we highly recommend.

Champagne Delamotte was founded in 1760 by François Delamotte, who already owned vineyards in Champagne. The house is one of the five oldest champagne houses. Delamotte remained in the family for many generations and even changed its name. At the end of the 1940s, it was bought by the de Nonancourt family, owners of Laurent-Perrier, who renamed it Delamotte. After the purchase of the renowned Salon house in 1989, Delamotte and Salon were merged. They are neighbours in Mesnil-sur-Oger anyway.

While Salon comes from the same twenty parcels in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Delamotte now owns six hectares in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, including in Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger. The grapes for Delamotte champagnes come exclusively from the Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, and the chalky character of the soils is clearly evident in the champagne. The champagnes are always fermented in stainless steel tanks and mature on the lees for at least six years before being riddled and disgorged. This gives them a creamy palate and a fine perlage, as well as their distinctive lemon-dominated aroma spectrum.
