The Dom Perignon 2006 is powerful, concentrated and is just approaching its full maturity. Brioche, vanilla, tropical fruit, lemon, apple, pear, almonds and hazelnut are part of the rich aromatic spectrum. Reductive smoke and roasted notes are added to the seductive aromatic profile. Like 2002, 2006 is a warm year with small berries and yields. In the early years, the finish in particular showed grippy phenols, which have now become integrated. The fine perlage and silky texture are initially present on the palate. The perlage no longer foams energetically over the palate, but lies a layer deeper under the fruit and provides energy and freshness. The acidity is surprisingly present for the ripe year 2006 and creates a refined interplay in contrast to the subtle fruit sweetness.


The growing season in 2006 was similar to that of 2002, with hot, dry weather that repeatedly interrupted the growing cycle and only resumed with the arrival of rain. In August, the temperatures cool down, which preserves the acidity levels to some extent. 2006 produces very concentrated, structured champagnes that need time. The fruit is ripe and lush. Unfortunately, the high expectations were only partially fulfilled, so that Dom Perignon, Krug and Cristal are now regarded as the outstanding wines of the vintage.


The drinking window for Dom Perignon is 2025 to 2040.
