The photo shows Edition 25, while Edition 28 is offered here, which has the 2016 vintage as its base year. Pinot Noirs from Ay and Mareuil sur Ay, which are fermented relatively briefly on the skins, provide the basis for the colour. These red wines make up around 10% of the Cuvee. 38% consists of reserve wines dating back to 2010. The Krug Rose can sometimes be rather soft and seductively fruity. Edition 28 surprises as one of the most concentrated, powerful Krug Rosés. The usual creamy red fruit is particularly vinous in this edition.
The cuvée consists of around a quarter Pinot Meunier from very old vines. Krug is the only house to use this grape variety in a super premium champagne. Krug Rosé has always been more vinous and less firmly structured than Grande Cuvée originally was. It's easy to underestimate how long-lasting Krug Rosé is. Last year, we found a bottle in the cellar that was from the 1970s and didn't look too old at all.

97 Yohan Castaing robertparker.com Offering aromas of peonies, orange peel, cinnamon, dried herbs, rose petals and ripe red berries, the NV Rosé 28ème Edition possesses a medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated palate with a vinous, creamy core of fruit framed by a vibrant, enrobing mid-palate that leads into a nicely phenolic, long, salty and mineral finish. This rendition—a blend of 58% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 17% Pinot Meunier—is one of this house's most powerful and well-executed Champagne rosé ever produced. It comprises 32 wines from vintages spanning 2010 to 2016, with the latter as the base, and red wine sourced from Aÿ.
