Personal advice
The style is characterised by super-ripe lemons and caramelised nut notes. The acidity is racy, but unlike Comtes, minerality is not the focus. It is full-bodied, opulent, with a creamy palate. Just as one would imagine Madonna's favourite Champagne.
Deutz now belongs to Louis Roederer and both houses adhere to the highest quality standards. Amour de Deutz was first released at the turn of the millennium with the 1993 vintage. The aim is a very attractive style with a large drinking window, just like Dom Pérignon. As a pure Chardonnay, however, it is more similar to Blanc des Millénaires 1990 or 1995. It pairs best with fish dishes from sushi and sashimi to lobster.
Amour de Deutz is made from old vines in Grand Cru sites in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Avize and a tiny proportion from the 95%-rated Premier Cru Villers-Marmery in the Grande Montagne de Reims. It is aged in tanks and undergoes malolactic fermentation. The 2008 vintage is a classic that you can enjoy now, but which will improve further.
