Charles Heidsieck Brut Rosé 2008

The Most Important in Brief

It should be opened a few hours before drinking. The Charles Heidsieck Brut Rosé 2008 smells of roasted hazelnuts, brioche and lemon, mirabelle, dried apricot, honey and candied orange. Light smoky notes of toast and coffee are also present. The palate is characterised by vanilla, brioche, coffee beans and yellow fruits. However, it needs a few hours of aeration to develop these aromas if the bottles are optimally stored. The 2012 vintage from Heidsieck fulfils all expectations: it is powerful and precise. The texture on the palate is creamy, but in a deeper layer full of mineral energy. The finish is very long with a mineral-salty finish. It can already be drunk well now, but will become even more complex. It shows the house style: lemon and toast aromas meet a full, silky palate full of fine details.

The 2008 Vintage

2008 was inconspicuous for a long time, with sunny periods alternating with cloudy ones and no lack of rain. The summer is rather cool. Only in the weeks before the harvest in September does it become really warm and sunny. The nights in September are already cold, so the acidity levels remain high. Due to the long, moderate vegetation and ripening period, particularly complex aromas have formed. This structured year with intense acidity requires patience.

      Ratings

98 jamessuckling.com An amazing 2008 rosé Champagne that has all the structure and aromatic complexity - sushi ginger, oolong tea and caramelized mandarin orange - we associate with this vintage, but also has more charm than most. On the palate, this has stunning concentration, yet is diamond bright. The interplay of creaminess, fine tannins and mineral acidity builds and builds at the breathtaking finish. The color comes from about 7% pinot noir red wine, partly from the little-known Les Riceys in the far south of Champagne

96 decanter.com With a much lower dosage than in previous years (7g/L), it has a spicy and smoky nose with pomegranate, citrus, liquorice and red berry aromas. Harmonious and elegant, the palate is full-bodied with both tense and fresh texture interplays, with a vinous structure. A gastronomic rosé built for long aging.
