Franck Bonville Pur Avize 2018
Franck Bonville Pur Avize 2018 comes from the three vineyards les Avats, les Maladries and les Chapelles surrounding the village of Avize. After ageing in partially new oak, this champagne spends four years on the lees. The very good 2018 vintage gets its balance from high mineral salt extract that gives tension and energy with Avize being the most mineral while Oger has more fruit.
Richard Juhlin champagneclub.com 89(93) 2000 bottles of each from Oger, Avize and Mesnil. It would be a sacrilege to do anything other than try the whole trio of Pur wines side by side. 2018 they are more similar to each other than before so we can assume that the vintage character dominates over terroir this time. All three have a deliciously refreshing and sumptuous airy fruit that is absolutely wonderful from the start. They are also more impressive in flavour than in aroma all together. Lots of tangerine, sweet lemon and orange in the mouth. Oger or Avize is not a given in this edition. Similar to Avize today with slightly more body and a little less tangerine and orangey fruit than in Avize.
