Piper-Heidsieck was once famous for razor-sharp, highly structured Champagnes that developed extremely slowly.
Vintage bottlings such as 1945, 1953 and 1955 are so outstanding that they can easily stand comparison with Dom Pérignon or Bollinger.
With the introduction of the prestige cuvée Florens-Louis, overall quality declined noticeably.
The style also changed significantly after major difficulties in the 1990s. The wines now undergo malolactic fermentation and are fuller and creamier in their youth.
If you are looking for an attractive vintage Champagne with a wide drinking window, Piper-Heidsieck Millésime has once again become a very good choice.
