Franck Bonville Pur Mesnil 2018

Pur Mesnil has the crisp mineral structure of this great terroir, which is not hard and austere like Bonville, but develops a silky fullness on the palate. Like Anselme Selosse, Olivier loves powerful, concentrated Chardonnay champagnes. This champagne is already drinkable, but is only at the beginning of its development. 2018 is the best year since 2008.

Richard Juhlin champagneclub.com 94(90): 2000 bottles of each from Oger, Avize and Mesnil. It would be sacrilege to do anything other than traste the entire trio of Pur wines side by side. In 2018, they are more similar to each other than before, so we can assume that the character of the vintage dominates over the terroir this time. All three of them have a deliciously refreshing and showy airy fruit that is absolutely wonderful from the start. They are also more impressive in taste than in smell overall. Mesnil also has a slightly lower dosage of 2 grams instead of 4 for the other two in the trio. The end result is that this wine stands out most with its slightly more pronounced petroleum tone and crunchy Meursault-like butteriness.
