Comtes de Champagne is the flagship of the House of Taittinger. Together with the Clos du Mesnil and Salon, it is the most prestigious Blanc de Blancs in Champagne. It has the potential to develop over decades.
Taittinger ages the Comtes de Champagne for a good ten years on the lees in the deep chalk cellars in Reims. After a further eight years of ageing, it is now perfect. The 2004 vintage of Comtes is exceptionally balanced and harmonious. The nose reveals complex aromas of white flowers, fresh citrus fruits, tarte au citron, roasted almonds and a hint of brioche. The palate is lively, finely sparkling and profound. Mineral freshness, silky texture and a long-lasting, elegant finish come together perfectly. At first, the aromas of roasted almonds are very present. With increasing aeration, these are overlaid by lemon. The palate becomes increasingly precise and mineral, carried by a racy acidity.
The 2004 is now at the beginning of its best drinking window. It is ideal if you prefer fresh, fruity flavours. If you are looking for nutty complexity, it can offer even more in a few years.
