Grande Année 2004 displays ripe yellow apples and lemon, accompanied by pronounced walnut spice, honey and delicate gingerbread notes. The full, creamy palate is threaded with lively, precise acidity that combines with mineral sparkle to create an impression of freshness and tension. The finish is long, ending with clear roasted notes. Even several days after opening, the wine continues to develop – becoming more complex and elegant, with the lemon notes evolving into orange zest and the walnut into white nougat. Although it is already very enjoyable and accessible now, its absolute peak still lies a few years ahead. It has excellent ageing potential – something far from guaranteed in this demanding yet delicious vintage. 2004 embodies the classic, nutty, full-bodied Bollinger style in its purest form.
