Just the sight of it whets the appetite: Grande Cuvée sparkles in bright gold, with fine bubbles threading through the glass once the intense effervescence right after opening has subsided. The bouquet is intense and so seductive: ripe lemon, candied orange, marzipan and gingerbread, white blossoms accompanied by yeasty brioche nuances and almonds. A toasty note from the oak barrel also shows in the nose. The palate engages you immediately with its fascinating aroma profile: nougat, caramel, lavender honey from Provence and hazelnuts meet lemon zest, tarte au citron, and brioche.
The occasion for this rather extraordinary pleasure is a comparison with Edition 173, which is already waiting in the wings. 173 is delicate, charming, round, and caressing. 172 has more substance and mineral structure and will develop better in the long term. It demands more of you now and evolves over hours. The fun factor is higher with 173 for the time being, though, if you're not keen on delighting in the potential and structure of 172.
