Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque 2008

Key Highlights

Belle Époque 2008 shows a refined interplay between the reductive creamy palate, the racy acidity and the fine fruit sweetness. The aromas are so complex that one could continue the list endlessly: lemon, peach, apricot, orange zest, brioche, almonds, hazelnut, and white flowers such as lilies.

The Blanc de Blancs Belle Époque is even softer, more opulent and less dry, but we find that Comtes de Champagne does it better and therefore prefer the regular Belle Époque. Also compared to the Rosé.

Key facts

  • 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier
  • Disgorged 2015
  • Iconic Art Nouveau anemone bottle design by Émile Gallé (1902)
  • Dosage approx. 6 g/l
  • Small production from old vines

The 2008 Vintage

2008 is considered one of the best vintages of recent decades in Champagne. After a challenging, cool spring with little sunshine, the grapes nevertheless achieved a perfect harmony of ripeness, freshness, precise acidity and great structure. The Champagnes today display excellent fruit, minerality and long aging potential.

Ratings

95(93) Richard Juhlin champagneclub.com The best champagne from this fabulous vintage released so far. A Classic Belle Epoque but at the same time even more elegant than usual with a lovely serious floral bouquet of orange blossom, magnolia and lilies of the valley as key notes in the most perfect of perfumes. The taste is somewhat more acidic than usual where Chardonnay from Avize and Cramant shines bright and clear for the moment with a discreet creamy and yet chalky and powdery emotion that embraces the crispy freshness. Together with the legends of 1964, 1985 and perhaps 1996 the best Belle Epoque ever created. Buy every bottle you can get!
