- A lush Pomerol from Trotanoy's neighbour
- Opulent, full-bodied Merlot style
Château Bourgneuf 2020 offers rich fruit that is structured by fine-grained, ripe tannins. 2020 has more weight than previous vintages without losing its harmony.
Located on one of Pomerol's finest terroirs, adjacent to Trotanoy and L'Église Clinet, Château Bourgneuf spans nine hectares of vines averaging 40 years old, all within a single plot. The soil, predominantly deep clay with iron deposits, is planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The iron-rich terroir imparts a distinctive style marked by layered complexity, depth, and density, complemented by polished, elegant tannins and alluring fruit.
The Vayron family has owned Château Bourgneuf since 1821. When Frédéric Vayron took charge in 2008, the wines were lighter and more rustic, with coarse tannins due to grapes being harvested before optimal phenolic ripeness. Significant improvements have been made through yield control, better vineyard management, fermentation in temperature-controlled concrete vats, and aging in 35% new oak barrels. Despite the remarkable progress, the pricing has yet to catch up with the quality.
