Description

According to the barcode and Laurent Perrier, it is Iteration 25, but the bottles do not have a label on the neck.

Grand Siecle 25 is an expression of the perfect 2008 vintage

What makes Edition 25 special?

Edition 25 brings together around 65% of wines from the excellent 2008 vintage, supplemented by 25% from 2007 and 10% from 2006. Fresh notes of lime and grapefruit meet subtle nuances of roasted almonds and brioche. Still youthfully restrained on the nose, this champagne already impresses with its elegant perlage and lively acidity. The individual components merge into a balanced overall experience. After 12 years of ageing on the lees, Edition 25 is still at the beginning of its development and promises enormous ageing potential for decades to come.

Grand Siècle stands for the art of blending

For Edition 25, 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir from nine renowned Grands Crus such as Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Cramant, Oger (Chardonnay) as well as Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, Mailly and Tours-sur-Marne (Pinot Noir) are used - this gives the champagne additional depth and complexity. The speciality: Unlike classic vintage champagnes, Grand Siècle combines different vintages to create a perfect cuvée. The idea came from Bernard de Nonancourt, who realised that combining the best characteristics of several vintages could produce an almost ideal champagne. While the 2008 vintage provides structure and elegance, 2007 brings freshness and almond flavours and 2006 ripe, warm notes that round off the composition without masking the youthful freshness. However, after two years, the 2008 vintage is increasingly coming to the fore, as its concentration and intensity push 2007 and 2006 into the background

How is Grand Siècle created?

Michel Fauconnet, who took over from the famous cellar master Alain Terrier, does not like oxidative wines and favours pure, pure fruit. He vinifies in steel tanks and does not use wooden barrels for reserve wines either. Due to its long bottle ageing of around ten years, the Grand Siecle has more nuances, fullness of flavour and complexity than the otherwise rather fruity, elegant, fresh Laurent Perrier champagnes. Malolactic fermentation is carried out. The vinification is mainstream, but the secret lies in the best vineyards, perfect grapes and refined blending.
