Champagne Delamotte was founded in 1760 by vineyard owner François Delamotte. The Delamotte house is the fifth oldest in the region. Delamotte was passed down through many generations and even changed its name once, but was re-established as Delamotte in the late 1940s when it passed into the ownership of the de Nonancourt family. Bernard de Nonancourt led Delamotte until 1988, when he integrated the house into his Laurent-Perrier group. After purchasing the renowned Salon house, Salon was merged with Delamotte. Both houses are neighbors in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. While Salon originates from the same twenty plots in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Delamotte now owns six hectares in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, including in Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Oger. In years when Salon is not produced, the grapes go into Delamotte Champagne. Today, Didier Dupond manages both Delamotte and Salon.

The grapes for Delamotte Champagnes come exclusively from the Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs, and the chalky character of the soils is clearly evident in the Champagne. The Champagnes are always fermented in stainless steel tanks and age for a very long time on the lees before disgorging. This long lees aging gives the Champagnes a very creamy palate and a fine perlage. The aromatic profile is based on lemon, peach, and exotic fruits, complemented by almonds and brioche. For all their elegance, Delamotte Champagnes can sometimes be a bit light, or even neutral in the case of the regular Brut. However, if you choose correctly, they are among the most stylish and seductive Blanc de Blancs.
