The La Grande Annee 2005 is a classic Bollinger, in which the typical oxidative walnut aromas dominate the fruit of windfall apples at the beginning. However, this does not mean that it is already too ripe. After 24 hours of aeration, the oxidative aromas recede into the background and it becomes fruitier and fresher, revealing aromas of orange peel, hazelnut cream, apple and caramel. It has a full palate that envelops the minerality. As is typical for 2005, it has low acidity and does not have the structure for long ageing, but is now at its peak when given enough air. If you don't love the classic oxidative Bollinger style and prefer fruit, this is not a good choice.
