- The elegant, fresh version of the Power Year
- The much more exciting version of Dom Perignon with long yeast ageing and low dosage
Dom Pérignon P2 2006 – The Second Plénitude
The Dom Pérignon P2 2006 represents the "Second Plénitude" of Dom Pérignon – an intense and matured expression of the original vintage. It was disgorged in September 2021 after 14 years of ageing on its lees with a mere 4.5g dosage, and then matured for a further three years in the Dom Pérignon cellars. Aromas of ripe tropical fruits such as passion fruit, mandarin, and pineapple evoke the warm vintage. These are complemented by lemon, dried apricot, and hazelnuts. Compared to the standard Dom Pérignon 2006, it is drier, fresher, more mineral, and its coffee and toast notes are more pronounced. The palate is very silky, and the refined acidity is better showcased by the lower dosage, extending into the long finish. An almost saline minerality is also present.
The 2006 Vintage: A Retrospective
The year 2006 in Champagne was characterised by an interplay of warmth and drought, punctuated by periods of cooler weather. A particularly hot July was followed by a cool and wet August, before September brought sunny and dry conditions for optimal grape ripeness. 2006 is not a vintage for early enjoyment, but the best 2006s are now beginning to enter their drinking window and promise much for the future.
