Ruinart was already bottling vintage Blanc de Blancs in 1947. The idea of a prestige cuvée arose after Moët & Chandon took over Ruinart. This much larger house had experience with marketing. The launch of Dom Perignon, which was actually a normal, much cheaper vintage with longer lees aging, was a huge success. Since Dom Ruinart's enthusiasm for Champagne sparkling wine inspired his nephew Nicolas to found Ruinart in 1729, it made sense to create a similar success story with Dom Ruinart as with Dom Perignon. The focus here was entirely on Chardonnay. The entire first vintage, 1959, was released in 1966. The entire production was exported to the USA in 1966. With the 1966 vintage, a Dom Ruinart Rose was also released, which is very rare.
