- Perfect harmony between lush fruit, delicate spice and perfectly integrated tannins
- Chianti at its best
Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo 2008 is now a rare treat. Everything is in perfect harmony. The acidity and tannins are competely clad by the sumptuous fruit with a soft palate, but provide structure and tension. The aroma palette ranges from fruit, ripe cherry and blueberry to roses, bay leaf, earth and leather. Both on the nose and on the palate, the intense fruit is initially apparent, while spicy aromas become more prominent later on.
The wine is made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It comes from a single vineyard with vines over 40 years old on Galestro soils in Panzano in Chianti with a south-south-west exposure at an altitude of 430-480 metres. The terroir is a special parcel in the famous Conca d'Oro, which is considered one of the best sites in Chianti. The Conca d'Oro is shaped like a natural amphitheatre. The soils are calcareous and have a particularly sunny microclimate.
Fontodi is a renowned organic winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico near Panzano, which has been owned by the Manetti family since 1968 and whose winegrowing tradition is based on organic farming, a sharp reduction in yields and precise cellar work. The winery's flagship wines are the Flaccianello della Pieve (100% Sangiovese) and the Vigna del Sorbo, which today has Chianti Classico Gran Selezione status.
