Description
Laurent Ponsot had rented the Griottes Chambertin from Domaine de Chezeaux in an agreement where he could keep half of the wine and the other half would be sold by Domaine de Chezeaux under their own label. Laurent Ponsot has been quite controversial in the past for his style of very late picked pinot noirs that create rich, ripe burgundies with chocolaty cocoa flavours. The reason is that the decision to pick late implies the risk of rain and dilution. With climate change that is now less of an issue but in the past one had to look out for the years with perfect autumns like 1990. The wines have no new oak and the Griottes is very concentrated and with a sauvage gamey element.
