- A highlight of Saar Riesling
- Drinking window 2027 to 2045
Van Volxem Gottesfuss is the fruit of 130 years original rootstock vines that grow on red and gray slate soils on slope with 50 to 90 % incline and south to southwest orientation. The soil has low water holdling capacity but a deep root systems. Despite the intense sun shine exposure of the terroir, the wine has great freshness and intense mineral tension that underpins the multilayered palate with a complex aromatic profile ranging from exotic to lemon fruit. These primary fruit flavours are receding and are just beginning to show the first signs of mature Riesling fruit. In early 2025 the wine is rather closed on opening and needs hours of airing. Experience from past vintages suggests that it needs another two years before the drinking window opens. With good cellarage the drinking window should be a decade or more.
