Champagne Delamotte – Elegance from the Côte des Blancs at Alfavin

The historic Champagne house Delamotte was founded in 1760 by vineyard owner François Delamotte, making it the fifth oldest house in the Champagne region. Over the centuries, the house was passed down through generations and even changed its name once, before being re-established as Delamotte in the late 1940s under the ownership of the de Nonancourt family. Bernard de Nonancourt managed Delamotte until 1988, when it was integrated into the prestigious Laurent-Perrier Group. After acquiring the renowned house Salon, both houses were combined – they are direct neighbors in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. While Salon produces exclusively from twenty selected parcels, Delamotte owns approximately six hectares in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, including Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Oger. In years when Salon does not produce Champagne, the grapes are used for Delamotte cuvées. Today, Didier Dupond oversees both Delamotte and Salon.

Terroir and Grapes for Delamotte Champagne

The grapes for Delamotte Champagne come exclusively from the Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs. The chalky soils impart freshness, minerality, and clarity to the Champagne. Delamotte focuses on the highest quality grapes, ensuring excellent aging potential from the vineyard itself.

Vinification and Aging

All Delamotte Champagnes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and undergo extended lees aging before disgorgement. This long maturation creates a creamy, smooth mouthfeel and exceptionally fine bubbles. The aromatic profile features lemon, peach, and exotic fruit, complemented by subtle notes of almonds and brioche.

Style and Character of Delamotte Cuvées

Delamotte Champagnes are defined by elegance, refinement, and balance. While they can sometimes appear light or neutral, especially the standard Brut, careful selection reveals some of the most stylish and seductive Blanc de Blancs Champagnes in the region. Each cuvée showcases the freshness, minerality, and creamy texture that exemplify the signature style of the Côte des Blancs.

In years when Salon is not produced, the grapes go into Delamotte Champagne. Today, Didier Dupond manages both Delamotte and Salon.

The grapes for Delamotte Champagnes come exclusively from the Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs, and the chalky character of the soils is clearly evident in the Champagne. The Champagnes are always fermented in stainless steel tanks and age for a very long time on the lees before disgorging. This long lees aging gives the Champagnes a very creamy palate and a fine perlage. The aromatic profile is based on lemon, peach, and exotic fruits, complemented by almonds and brioche. For all their elegance, Delamotte Champagnes can sometimes be a bit light, or even neutral in the case of the regular Brut. However, if you choose correctly, they are among the most stylish and seductive Blanc de Blancs.
