At 51 hectares, the Clos de Vougeot has the largest area of all the Grands Crus after Corton and Corton Charlemagne. Instead of categorising the vineyard, which is surrounded by a wall, into village vineyards, 1er Cru and Grand Cru, the entire Clos was classified as a Grand Cru. Anne Gro's parcel is one of the best. It lies above the Chateau de Clos de Vougeot and borders on the Grands Echezeaux. It therefore has the typical lush fruit and spicy aromas that characterise Clos de Vougeot, but also more finesse. The 1998 is a real surprise for the vintage. It shows red fruit, especially cherries, underpinned by earthy flavours. It is harmonious and fine and does not show its true age.
