2006 displays the typical aromas of lemon, grapefruit, green apple and brioche. The finish also features nutty notes. The palate has a beautiful silky fullness, is very concentrated and also has a chalky, salty minerality. Dom Ruinart is the right choice if you like lush Blanc de Blancs.
Ruinart bottled vintage Blanc de Blancs as early as 1947. The idea of a prestige cuvée arose after Moët & Chandon took over the Ruinart house. The much larger house had experience in marketing. The introduction of Dom Perignon, which was actually a normal, significantly cheaper vintage with longer yeast storage, was a great success. Since Dom Ruinart, with his enthusiasm for Champagne sparkling wine, inspired his nephew Nicolas to found the Ruinart house in 1729, it makes sense to create a similar success story with Dom Ruinart as with Dom Perignon. The focus here is entirely on Chardonnay. The entire first vintage of 1959 was released in 1966. The entire production was exported to the USA in 1966. With the 1966 vintage, a Dom Ruinart Rosé was also released, which is very rare.
90% of the grapes for Dom Ruinart come from the Grands Crus Avize, Chouilly, Cramant and Le Mesnil. However, Ruinart not only has vines on the Cote de Blancs, but also in the lesser-known Grands Crus Sillery and Puisieulx in the Montagne de Reims. In addition to Chardonnay fruit and mineral notes, Dom Ruinart, like Dom Perignon, has reductive, toasted notes. The wines are fermented without the use of wood and malolactic fermentation is carried out.
