Rossignol-Trapet is now one of Gevrey-Chambertin's renowned wineries, and the wines have their price.

The Petite-Chapelle is a well-structured premier cru that is approaching maturity in the 2014 vintage.

Nicolas and David Rossignol come from a long-established winemaking family in Volnay. They had a double wedding in 1990. The two brothers married Louis Trapet's two daughters. The Louis Trapet estate was then divided between Louis' son Jean-Louis Trapet and the two daughters. Since then, the daughters have continued to run their winery as Domaine Rossignol-Trapet. Jean-Louis Trapet continues to run the family business as Domaine Trapet Père et Fils.

The soils of the Premier Crus Petite-Chapelle are clayey and known for their tannic structure. It still needs many hours of aeration to open up in the glass.

It took Nicolas and David a long time to find their own style. Especially in the 90s, the quality was irregular. They followed the trend of using more new wood without really mastering micro-oxidation.  The switch to organic cultivation and better grape quality led to improvements. Fine-tuning the winemaking process and avoiding strong extraction have led to today's success: harmonious, fine Gevrey-Chambertins are produced here. The model is Eric Rousseau, although this is not to suggest that Rossignol-Trapet has quite reached the level of its role model.
