Poisot Corton Bressandes 2016
The Vineyard
Remi Poisot owns 0,43 ha of sixty years old vines in the lower parts of the grand cru Corton where the climat Bressandes is located. Bressandes is located unter the climats Clos du Roi and Renardes and the three are considered as the best in Corton. Corton used to be higher regarded with Lavalle classing large part of it in his top category, the Tete de Cuvee, into which for instance La Tache did not make it. The exposure is southeast and the slope is gentle. The soil is limey, stoney clay. In theory Corton, and especially Bressandes, makes powerfull, full bodied wines and it is a delighfull surprise to find such an elegant, harmonious Corton, as is produced under Remi Poisots authorship.
The year 2016
2016 is a classic great burgundy vintage. The fruit is ripe, nuanced and expressive of its terroir with no overripeness. Tannins are ripe and together with sufficient acidity provide enough structure to achieve freshness, transparence and ageworthiness. The combination of concentration and finesse that 2016 shows is is only achieved in exceptional years.
Tasting
The power and concentration of Corton meet the elegance and harmony of pinot noir here. Blueberrys, cherries, black currants dominate in the nose which also has a scent of violets. The tannins are ripe and perfectly integrated. The palate is full and concentrated, you can taste the small yields. With airing aromas of lichorice, leather and earth show.
